Nuggets deal Camby to Clippers
Basketball Betting Lines
07/15/2008 -
Denver, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Los Angeles Clippers filled the void left by
Elton Brand last week by acquiring veteran center Marcus Camby from Denver
Tuesday night.
The Nuggets dealt Camby in exchange for the right to swap second-round picks
in the 2010 NBA draft. Also, the Nuggets receive a $10 million trade
exception, which can be used until one year from the completion of the trade.
The 34-year-old Camby, who has played for the Nuggets the last six seasons,
averaged 9.1 points, 13.1 rebounds and 3.6 blocks over a career-high 79 games
last season.
"I love this acquisition for the current make up of our team," Clippers head
coach Mike Dunleavy said. "We are getting a consummate pro who is maybe the
best team defender in the league and who has 60 playoff games under his belt."
The second overall pick in the 1996 draft by the Raptors, Camby spent his
first two seasons in Toronto before being traded to the New York Knicks, a
team he played for the ensuing four years. He has career averages of 10.7
points and 9.7 rebounds and has been named a league all-defensive team member
four times. He was the NBA's defensive player of the year in the 2006-07
season.
Camby has led the NBA in blocked shots in each of the last three seasons and
departs as the second-leading shot blocker in team history (1,126).
"Marcus has been an exceptional representative of the Nuggets both on the
court and in the Denver community during his time here and we are greatly
appreciative of all he has done," said Nuggets vice president of basketball
operations Mark Warkentien. "This trade exception, along with the future
first-round draft choice we received from Charlotte last month, gives us a
number of options and a tremendous amount of flexibility."
Brand opted out of the final year of his contract with the Clippers in June,
which would have paid him $16.4 million, in order to negotiate a new deal.
Brand, who has career averages of 20.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks
per game, then signed a lucrative five-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers
last week.
"I think this is a very good addition for us, especially since we're getting a
player who can really help us without having to give up a player in return,"
Clippers vice president of basketball operations Elgin Baylor said. "Marcus
can play multiple positions and is one of the better rebounders and shot-
blockers in the league. With him playing alongside [Chris] Kaman I think we
will have a pair of excellent interior defenders, and that will make us a
formidable team."

With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship. Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92. After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points. Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1. Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years. With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed. UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern. Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier. OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak. Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four. It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta. But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect
LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.
Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.
Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.
